ANDREW — Kathleen JoAnn Irwin, 79, of rural Andrew, died Thursday at Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa.

Burial will be in Andrew Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 31, 1927, in rural Maquoketa to Alfred and Lucille Brown Budde. She married Edward T. “Ed” Irwin on June 30, 1948, in Maquoketa. He died Jan. 13.

She was a 1945 graduate of Maquoketa High School.

Prior to her marriage, she worked as a telephone operator for a couple of years. She then became a homemaker and farmed with her husband near Andrew for many years.

She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Andrew; American Legion Ladies Auxiliary; and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club, Maquoketa.

Survivors include her children, Richard Irwin of Raymond, Wash., Barbara Ehl of Iowa City, Mary (Don) Kendrick of Rockland, Wis., Donna Borema of Summerville, S.C., David (Dory) Irwin of Lost Nation, Ronald (Ruth) Irwin of Andrew, Gary (Darlyn) Irwin of Preston and Lori (Dean) Margeson of Andrew; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and five sisters, Patricia (Al) Marcial of Omaha, Neb., Doris Dutton of Eldridge, Gloria Bahr of Preston, Mary (Gerry) Farrell of Delmar and Joyce McAndrew of Maquoketa.

A Kathleen JoAnn Irwin Memorial Fund has been established.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, one sister and one grandchild.
