MAQUOKETA — Douglas E. “Doug” Hute, 56, of Maquoketa, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital, Dubuque.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, where full military rites will be conducted by Maquoketa American Legion Post 75, Maquoketa VFW Post 3633 O’Connor-Regenwether and Andrew AMVETS Post 62.

He was born Oct. 8, 1950, in Maquoketa to Elmer R. and Daisy P. Clark Hute. He married Connie Carlson on July 13, 1969, in Emeline.

He was a 1968 graduate of Delwood High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1990 from the University of Dubuque.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

He worked with Stouffer’s, DeWitt, for one year. He then worked with Caterpillar, Mount Joy, as machinist for nine years and upon its closing, moved to Missouri and worked with Custom Design Telephone for two years. In 1992, he and his family returned to Maquoketa and he began working as a quality assistance inspector with Pacific Coast Feather Co. for four years. He also worked with WADY Industries, Maquoketa, as a coating bar plant supervisor.

He was a lifetime member of the Baldwin/Monmouth AMVETS. He also was a member of the Friday Night Mixed Bowling League and Wednesday Night Golf Club at Prairie Creek Golf Course, Maquoketa.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Jason (Nicole) Hute of Maquoketa, Cord (Jennifer) Hute of Novato, Calif., and Cole Hute of Maquoketa; six grandchildren; brothers, Ron (Shirley) Hute of Florissant, Colo., Dean Hute of Maquoketa and Steven Hute of Chicago; and sisters, Carol (Allan) Carr of Monmouth, Iowa, Cheryl Sohn of Maquoketa and Jackie Thompson of Chicago; and his mother-in-law, Mary Lou Carlson of Monmouth.

A Douglas E. “Doug” Hute Memorial Fund has been established.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
