MAQUOKETA — Blanche M. McCallister, 79, of Maquoketa, died Saturday at Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services in Maquoketa.

The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the East Iron Hill Cemetery, rural Maquoketa.

She was born April 28, 1927, in Charlotte to John W. and Evalina A. Hendricks Paasch. She married Sherman E. McCallister on Feb. 20, 1943, in Kahoka, Mo.

She was educated in Charlotte and Clinton schools through the eighth grade. She then obtained her GED in 1985 from Maquoketa High School.

She first worked at the Fish & Tackle Company in Maquoketa for two years. She then became a cook working at various restaurants in Maquoketa throughout her adult life. Upon retiring, she did in-home care for several area residents.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa, the First Lutheran Women and Community Services.

Survivors include her children, Mrs. Nancy (Bob) Jamison of Clinton, Mrs. Mary (Tom) Gilmore of Maquoketa and Richard “Dick” (LeAnn) McCallister of Maquoketa; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Pearl Urwin of Preston, Mrs. Delores (Clarence) Lentz of Bellevue, Neb., and Vera Langschwager of Ocala, Fla.; and a brother, Roger Paasch of Tybee Island, Ga.

A Blanche M. McCallister Memorial Fund has been established.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a daughter.
