April 10, 1890(Bellevue Leader, April 3.)
Last Tuesday was the semi-centennial anniversary of the battle of Bellevue, fought April 1, 1840, when Sheriff W. A. Warren and Col. Cox in command of a posse of armed men attacked the bandits under their leader Brown, finally killing or capturing the whole gang. Brown was killed at the first fire. There are but two persons living in Bellevue or vicinity who were here at the time of the battle, and the names of these two are T. J. Peatee, and Mrs. Sublette – both very old people but both very active and strong for people of their advanced ages.
