Rev. W. S. R. Burnette, of Preston, and Otto Schmidt, of Van Buren, were among the delegates from Jackson county who attended the Anti-Prohibition Republican meeting at Des Moines this week. Rev. Burnette took a prominent part in the proceedings and the Associated Press dispatches say of him – “One of the prominent speakers was Rev. Mr. Burnette, a Methodist minister from Jackson county. He was a presidential elector in 1888. He said he was a prohibitionist, but first of all he was a Republican.”
