Maquoketa Excelsior, July 22, 1876.

Mr. Jacob Becker has the contract for completing the stone and brick work of the new Decker House, the job to be finished within ninety days.

Jackson Sentinel, August 17, 1876.

The massive foundation walls of Mr. Jas. Decker’s $30,000 hotel are rapidly approaching completion. Mr. Decker is evidently building a monument to his memory that he intends shall endure for a number of centennial anniversaries and a hotel good enough for Maquoketa when her population shall be numbered by the tens of thousands. Long may he live to enjoy this monument to his enterprise and liberality.

Jackson Sentinel, August 24, 1876.

Large quantities of cut stone for the doorways and columns of the new Decker House are now being shipped from the Anamosa quarries. It is now quite apparent that this will be one of the most substantial and finest hotel buildings in this part of the State, not inferior to anything of the kind in Davenport or Dubuque. Mr. Decker is entitled to the gratitude of the people of Maquoketa, and we hope to see them give expression to it one of these days.
