Heavy Rains In Jackson County

BOWEN, MCCLOY, WILLIAMS

Maquoketa Excelsior, July 22, 1876.

Dr. A. B. Bowen informs us that nine inches of rain has fallen at this point since the first of July. This amount is very much above the average for the month. The Doctor keeps an accurate record and makes a monthly report to Prof. Henrich at Iowa City, who is meterological reporter of the state for the Bureau at Washington.

The damage done to McCloy’s dam by the storm two weeks ago has been repaired, and the mill is again in running order. A full force of hands is at work filling up the gap made by the water at the lower mill owned by Seneca Williams. The heavy rains of the past week have interfered with the work, so that it has not been pushed as rapidly as the proprietor would wish, but in the course of two weeks the break will be filled.
