Returning Californians.

Several of those who immigrated to the gold regions last spring from this county have returned. We were much gratified to take our old friend John G. Chambers, by the hand the other day, who is among those who sought their El Dorado in California. He gives an interesting account of matters on the Pacific. – He did not visit the mines. Mr. C. was in Sacramento city during the recent troubles. He saw the affray in which the Mayor was killed. The excitement is very great upon the subject of claims.

Mr. C. showed us a splendid specimen of gold quartz, worth not less than $140. He was 55 days on the passage, via, New Orleans. He has our thanks for a number of late California papers.

Mr. Jonas of Bellevue, and Mr. Carpenter of the northern part of the county, have returned in good health. They report some others in their wake.

One hope presents itself in redacting upon the return of persons from California, after making so short a stay: that it may stop the insane emigration of many of our best citizens, to the land of golden hopes and starving reality.
