Jackson Sentinel, June 15, 1871.

Deputy Sheriff Cale Sherman, one of the livest Democrats in the county, and Hon. Ansel Briggs, first Governor of Iowa, passed through town last Tuesday, on their way to Des Moines, to represent the county in the Democratic Convention to be held June 14th at the Polk county court house.

Jackson Sentinel, June 22, 1871.

Deputy Sheriff Cale Sherman returned from the Democratic State Convention on Thursday evening last. Such harmony, unanimity of sentiment, general good feeling, and will to do, and work for the cause never before manifested itself at any previous covention. Glad to hear this friend Sherman. If we can't win we can most assuredly whittle down their majority to a very small number.
