September 14, 1871REPUBLICAN COUNTY CONVENTION
The convention was called to order by Levi Keck, Chairman of the County Committee.
The first business in order was the nomination of a candidate for State Senator. Dr. J. H. Allen, Thos. E. Cannell and J. P. Eaton all of Maquoketa, were placed in nomination. Dr. J. H. Allen was nominated on the second ballot.
For Representatives W. Kilborn, of Bellevue and G. C. Heberling of Sabula were nominated by acclamation.
A. M. Phillips, the present incumbent was nominated after an informal ballot of 46 votes over Capt. Hamilton with 12 votes.
Myron Collins of Bellevue was nominated by acclamation for Sheriff.
Treasurer, H. G. Haskell of Maquoketa received 40 votes and Levi Keck of Andrew 10 votes and Haskell was nominated.
T. E. Blanchard was nominated for Auditor by acclamation.
