Maquoketa Record, April 25, 1906:
Alonzo Thornburg, aged 45 years, was instantly killed in a fall from the platform of the new bridge which the C.M & St. Paul Railroad is building across the Mississippi River at Sabula, Monday, alighting on the stone pier. His body was terribly crushed and mangled, and his death instantly resulted, the unfortunate man falling over 40 feet.
