Maquoketa Record, April 25, 1906:
Louis Partridge was seriously injured yesterday by the explosion of dynamite which occurred at the Coverdale stone quarry south of town. "Frenchy" as he is known here, started a blast Saturday, but it failed to explode, and commenced to drill for it yesterday and consequently he is now at his home with his face and hands pretty well torn up. Dr. L.B.Carson was called and dressed the wounds, and as we go to press we learn that he is in a serious condition.
