Senator asked to resign.
The Bellevue Courier says a petition is circulating asking Green, the Senator from this county(Jackson), to resign, because he failed to represent the wishes of his constituents in the extra session in regard to the State loan(to fund the Civil War). We hope every true patriot who has an opportunity will sign this request. We honor a man for voting with and for his party for all legitimate party issues; but when party and country are opposed to each other as the notions of democrats in our state legislature would seem to indicate, the democracy and the country are, it is a man's duty, as representative of the people, to vote with his country every time. Mr. Green, as well as Reed and McCullough, seems to have forgotten, if he ever knew that much, that nine-tenths of his party in Jackson County were on the side of the country, and that the party views would have been represented by voting for the loan(to fund the Civil War). We hope Green will resign and that patriots will be chosen to fill the places now filled by the three traitors, who misrepresent the people of our county. With the "Courier" - we say in reference to the petition - "Keep the ball rolling."
