The Supreme Court at Davenport decided that Andrew was the County Seat of Jackson County, last Thursday, which decision to the effect that the law is yet in force, and any notice that induces the people to turn out and vote on the question according to the law is a sufficient notice under the law.
We rejoice heartily over this result, as it places the County Seat within reasonable distance of all the citizens of the county and does not compel the vast majority to be at an enormous annual expenditure of time and money for the benefit of a very few, and we are pleased that the court has so decided because it will leave the people of other counties similarly situated to hold their elections without fearing that their decision will be reversed by the Supreme Court.
We acknowledge the good feeling and kindness of heart which prompted the people of Andrew to tender the following card of thanks, and we have only to say in return that should occasion demand we will endeavor to perform our duty as earnestly as we have done in the past, knowing that our labors are appreciated by those for and with whom we work. We must say that we have never worked in any cause and for any place with nothing more than a local interest to subserve than we did for the removal of the county seat and we are glad to know that the Andrew people are satisfied with our course in the matter. Now patrons of Andrew and of Jackson County, we are with you for the maintenance of our Glorious Union.
It was unanimously resolved by the citizens of Andrew and vicinity that the following card of thanks be given and published in the "Jackson County Sentinel" and the "Maquoketa Excelsior":
The undersigned citizens of Andrew and vicinity in consideration of the untiring labors of the editors of the "Jackson County Sentinel" and the "Maquoketa Excelsior" in the County Seat contest just past, and which has resulted so favorably to the county especially for the uncompromising steadfastness in resisting the venal influences and inducements that were held out to them by those not friendly to the removal fully appreciate the worth of their co-labors with us for the same hereby tender them this card of thanks not only in an editorial capacity, but as individual workers-devoting as they did, space, time and talk-in advancing the best interests of the people by removal of the County Seat from Bellevue to Andrew.
