The Feeney’s

Pat and Bridget Feeney immigrated to America from Roscommon County, Ireland in 1847. They brought with them four sons and one daughter. Their son Mile chose to remain in Ireland with a married sister.

While crossing the Atlantic Pat and Bridget both died and were buried at sea. Upon arriving in America the four boys placed their sister in a convent in Pennsylvania, then worked at any job they could find to make a living,

In 1854, Mike Feeney followed his family to America. Mike got a job on the Mississippi River, working the St. Paul to New Orleans run. He wasn’t drafted into the Civil War, because river work was considered vital transportation.

In 1855, Mike arrives in Jackson County, Iowa settling near Sylvia Switch - and married Anne Lynch. They were the parents of six children, and then Anne died. A few years later Mike married again – Mary Melloy, they were the parents of three children.

Mike Feeney’s son, Bill (”Black Bill”) Feeney married Mary Rose Cannon. They were the parents of Gerald, Tom, Bill, Bob, Paul, Joe, Loras, Harold, and Mary.
