Charles F. Shaffer for Clerk of Court
Charles F. Shaffer was born in Washington Township, Jackson County, in 1870, and is therefore in his thirty-second year. His father, who was an early settler, has been engaged in farming there for many years and is known as a reliable man and always a staunch Democrat. Charles F. is a chip off the old block and Mr. Wyckoff, in presenting his name to the convention, could conscientiously vouch for his Democracy and guarantee his qualifications. After passing through his home school, Mrs. Shaffer went to Valparaiso, Indiana, where he became a student at the Normal College of that city for two years. He then returned home and has been engaged in teaching during the winter months for the past four years, carrying on the farm work during the summer. He has been elected township clerk for the past four years and is again re-nominated. He is a very competent young man, of clean habits and quite popular in his home township. If elected he would be a credit to the office and an honor to his party. While he realizes that his opponent is running for the second term and is one of those continuous, everlasting campaigners, Mr. Shaffer will not be deterred from doing his duty and will make a respectable, impersonal canvass of the county.
