Elizabeth Hilbert was born April 17, 1847 in Angelsburg, Fischbach, Mersch Luxembourg, and died November 9, 1908 in Springbrook, Jackson County, Iowa. She married John N. Etringer on June 17, 1874 in Saint Peter and Paul Church, Springbrook, Iowa. John Etringer was the son of Peter Etring and Elizabeth Jung. He was born March 10, 1841 in Pfarrel Dommeldange, G. D. Luxembourg, and died March 3, 1885 in Springbrook, Jackson County, Iowa

According to my dad, Herbert Weis, who is a grandson of Elizabeth Hilbert and John Etringer, his mother, Margaret Etringer was raised on a farm located in section 35 of Jackson County, Jackson Township in Iowa. To find this farm, it is easiest to follow 150th street east out of Springbrook until you get to intersection with 387th Avenue. Turn south at this intersection and follow 387th Avenue until the first intersection to the right, which is 109th Street. Travel straight on 109th Street until you get to a right angle turn at the bottom of the hill. Look straight ahead before you turn. That was the John Etringer and Elizabeth Hilbert property, where they raised their family.

Mary Etringer – 1875 – John B. Portz

Mary Etringer was born May 12, 1875 was born May 12, 1875 in Springbrook, Jackson County, Iowa, and died January 21, 1961 in Springbrook, Jackson County, Iowa. She married John B. Portz, the son of Bernard Portz and Elizabeth Portz. John Portz was born September 2, 1863 in Spruce Creek, Jackson County, Iowa, and died November 28, 1939 in Springbrook, Jackson County, Iowa.

Mary Etringer and John Portz had the following children, all born near Springbrook, Jackson County, Iowa.

Bernard Portz, born June 13, 1893 and died October 11, 1918.

Nicholas Portz – 1895 – Mary Pottebaum

Nicholas Portz, born May 9, 1895 married Mary Pottebaum in Alton, Iowa on January 6, 1926. Nicholas died September 15, 1973 in Hospers, Iowa.

William Portz, born May 30, 1898 in Springbrook, Iowa and married Barbara Stallman on September 23, 1930. Barbara was born September 23, 1900 and died January 1975. William died January 11, 1975 in Granville, Iowa.

Cecelia Portz was born on March 4, 1900 in Springbrook, Jackson County, Iowa. She died on November 4,1968 in Preston, Iowa.

Christian Portz – 1902 – Rose Haupert

Christian Portz, born February 2, 1902, married Rose Haupert, daughter of Mathias Haupert and Margaret Hemmen. Margaret was born December 20, 1899 and died on May 24, 1970 in Sheldon, Iowa. Christian Portz died on April 16, 1983 in Sheldon, Iowa.
