JARGO, JOHN K., Vice President and Cashier of the Jackson State Savings Bank in Maquoketa, was born in Teeds Grove, October 8, 1892, the son of Charles and Julie (Kunau) Jargo. He was graduated from the Miles High School in 1910, then attended Cornell (Iowa) Mount Vernon, and the University of Iowa, and was self-educated after service in World War I. He passed the Iowa Bar examinations in 1927. His first banking experience was during his educational period about 1910 as bookkeeper, and after three years in college accepted the position of assistant cashier for the Preston Savings bank in Preston, remaining here from 1915 to 1918, when he entered the armed forces. Upon his separation from military service he returned to the same bank and remained there until he was offered the post of assistant cashier at the Jackson State Bank in 1927; in 1936 he was promoted to cashier and in addition now serves as vice president and director. He is a member of the Iowa Bankers Association, is past worshipful master in the Masonic Lodge, member of the Consistory in Clinton, the Shrine El Kaaba of Davenport, the Knights of Pythias, American Legion and the Chamber of Commerce. In politics he has held the office of city treasurer and treasurer of the Independent School District. Mr. Jargo is also secretary and director of the Jackson Investment Company. He is a member of the Congregational Church and his hobbies are: farming, hunting, out-of-doors life. He married at Preston in 1920, Vera White, who is active in church and charitable work, the daughter of Benjamin D. and Mabel (McNeil) White. Mr. and Mrs. Jargo have the following children: Miriam Jane, born in 1924; married to Robert Stockham; they have one son and one daughter; Donna Jean, born in 1927, is married to Jack Harris and has two daughters; John Charles, born in 1932, attends Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri.
