Jackson Sentinel, September 14, 1871

Our one armed candidate for Superintendent of Schools, Allen J. House, is a nepew of that lifelong democrat D. T. Farr. He has resided in this county about eight years, and although a young man has spent six winters in teaching, and has still further qualified himself for the position he is about to fill by an attendance of sometime at the State University. No young man in this community has a better record or stands better before the people than Allen J. House. and as a evidence of this it is only necessary to state that one year ago he was elected J.P. for the strong republic township of Maquoketa, without opposition. Mr. House has recently been admitted to the bar of this county.
