Thanks for your reply Steve, but those Clarks are not my ancestors. I responded very quickly without much detail because I seldom hear of anyone else researching an ancestor who lived in Pilot. I've traced Daniel and Charlotte (Prince) Clark up through the 1870 census, Township of Pilot, Iowa Co., IA:
Clarke Daniel 38 M W Carpenter CT
Clarke Sharlotte 36 F W Keeping house CT
Clarke George L 18 M W CT
Clarke Albert A 13 M W IA
Clarke Wm. 9 M W IA
Clarke Charles 5 M W IA
Clarke Mary 2 F W IA
Clarke Edward 9/12 M W IA Aug

By 1880, Charlotte and all the children have returned to CT. According to the 1880 U.S. Census, Charlotte has remarried and is now Charlotte Hine living in Milford, New Haven Co., CT, with her 3 youngest children. I have not been able to find a trace of Daniel after the 1870 U.S. Census, thus the questions about where to look next. The 1870 census states that Daniel had real estate valued at 2400 and personal estate of 517. His four oldest children attended school within the year.
