Otto C. Zuber, 93, of Middle Amana, formerly of South Amana, passed from his earthly home to his eternal life on Feb. 12, 2006. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, Middle Amana Community Church in Middle Amana. Burial will be in the South Amana Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Middle Amana Community Church.
Memorials may be contributed to the Amana Church Society, the Amana Arts Guild or the Amana Heritage Society.

He is survived by three daughters, Mary Ann Herring of Omaha, Neb., Barbara Hollrah and husband Bill of Bella Vista, Ark., and Elaine Zuber and husband Dennis of Homestead; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Erna Wendler and husband Walter of Racine, Wis.; and two sisters-in-law, Minnie Zuber of Kingwood, Texas, and Louise Hergert of Middle Amana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna in 1999; a son-in-law, Dale Herring; two brothers, Edmond and Reynold; and sisters, Mary Dieckman and Lillian Benner.

Otto Clemens Zuber was born June 4, 1912, in South Amana, the son of Peter and Annie Schuch Zuber. He attended the South Amana School and worked with his father at the South Amana Butcher Shop. At age 22 he became the first employee of Amana Refrigeration, remaining there for 40 years, retiring as a plant engineer in 1974. He married Edna Shoup on Feb. 1, 1936, in South Amana. This 63-year union was blessed with three daughters. The couple made their home in South Amana and later in Fort Myers, Fla.

Otto was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was a community leader, serving on the South Amana Volunteer Fire Department, the Amana Society Board of Directors, and was a member of the Amana Young Men's Bureau.

Music was a large part of his life as he was a song leader for the Amana Church, a member of the Young Men's Bureau Chorus and the Seven Lakes Mixed Chorus in Fort Myers. He most recently participated in the men's chorus at the Amana Sesquicentennial in July 2005.

Otto was an avid golfer and Cubs fan and enjoyed watching a variety of sports on television.

He sends one last hug to all who knew him and loved him.
