"HILTON RESIDENT IS LAID TO REST

Funeral Rites Held for One of Township's Oldest Women

Mrs. Ellen Larson Martinson, 70, one of Hilton township's oldest residents was laid to rest Saturday afternoon at the Norwegian Lutheran cemetery beside her husband and child. Services at the church were conducted by the Rev. W.E. Carlson. Music was by the Misses Fern Halvorson and Norma Helgeson. Pallbearers were Jule Halverson, Hjelmer Helgeson, Ordin Halverson, Nels Halverson, Thor Norland and Arthur Jacobs.

Mrs. Martinson died on Wednesday of last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Hunzelman, southwest of Conroy. Death was due to a series of paralytic strokes and other complications which had confined her to her bed for more than a year.

Mrs. Martinson was born in Stavenhagen, Norway, Sept. 19, 1864, and came to this country with her brothers in 1872. She first made her home with her uncle, Tosten Tostenson who lived south of Conroy.

In her childhood she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of which she was a faithful member thruout her life.

On April 20, 1881, she was united in marriage to K.W. Martinson and the home was at once established on the farm in Hilton township. Here she resided until last August when she was taken to the Hunzelman home.

To this union were born nine children, two of whom together with the husband preceded her in death. Those left to mourn are Martin at home, Bertha Feemster, Olive, Calif., Charlotte Drummond, Ashland, Ore.; Leonard and Frank of Williamsburg and Edvina Hunzelman and Elmer of Marengo. Attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. P.H. Martens, P.M. Martens and Roy Hall of Roland."
