'CONROY FARMER FOR 50 YEARS DECEASED
Knude Martinson Funeral From Norwegian Church on Saturday
Knude Martinson passed away at his home near Conroy, Sept. 18, after an illness of six months. Funeral services were held at the Norwegian Lutheran church near Conroy, Saturday, conducted by the Rev. J.H. Lunde of Huxley. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery. Pallbearers were Geo. E. Olson, Theo. Thompson, J.H. Halverson, Chris Nelson, Albert Olson and Nels Larson.
Mr. Martinson was born near Stavengar, Norway, Dec. 25, 1851, and passed away at the age of 77 years, 8 months, and 23 days. He emigrated to America on July 16, 1872, and came directly to the vicinity of Conroy, where he worked until 1880. He then purchased the farm on which he lived for nearly 50 years.
He was a man of quiet and retiring ways and had secured a competence through his industry and frugality.
Mr. Martinson was united in marriage to Miss Ellen E. Larson, April 20, 1881, and to them nine children were born. Two children, Edwin and Annie, preceded him in death. Those left to mourn are Martin of Conroy, Mrs. Bertha Feemster of Olive, Cal.; C.E. Martinson and Mrs. Chas. Hunzelman of Marengo; Mrs. William Drummond of Ashland, Ore; Leonard and Frank of Williamsburg. He also leaves 17 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one brother and one sister, P.W. Martinson and Miss Bertha Martinson of Roland, Ia.
In his early childhood, Mr. Martinson was confirmed in the Lutheran faith and ever since has been faithful to the teachings of that church. It was in God's word and sacraments that he was comforted during the last weeks of his life.
Those from a distance who came to attend the funeral service were Mrs. Anna Larson, Mrs. Louise Larson, Mrs. Henry Rouse and Theo. Larson of Fe. S.D., Mrs. Wm. Drummond of Ashland, Ore., Mr. and Mrs. E.K. Martinson, Phillip Martinson and Bertha Martinson of Roland."
