OBITUARY, Pioneer Republican, Marengo, Iowa, December 31, 1953:

"FUNERAL SATURDAY FOR MRS. SIMMONS, DIED WEDNESDAY.

Funeral services for Mrs. R.A. Simmons, 77, who died Dec. 23, after a lingering illness, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Hoover Funeral home. Rev. Gardner Winn was in charge of the services. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Donna Jones and Maude Bishop accompanied by Mrs. R.R. Hibbs, sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Jesus, Lover of My Soul." Mrs. Emma Fiester and Mrs. Nell Sherlock were in charge of flowers.

Pallbearers were Chas. Lindsay, Geo. Brauch, Ernest Lindenmayer, Emil Timmerman, Edwin Wanamaker and Wm. Turner.

Katy M., daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Fred Miller, was born Aug 17, 1876 at West Pilot. As a young girl she moved with her parents to Marengo and spent her entire life here.

She was married to Raymond A. Simmons in 1895. To this union was born two children, Lloyd R. Simmons and Mrs. Irene Rathjen, both of Marengo. She is also survived by four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three sisters, Mrs. Sophia Tiernan, Mrs. Mary Pope and Mrs. Minnie South.

Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Presbyterian church, American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star lodge."
