OBITUARY, Marengo Sentinel & Democrat, September 3, 1918:

"GOOD LADY CALLED

Mrs. M.A. Simmons died at her home in Marengo, Sunday, Sept. 1st.

Mary Virginia Agnew was united in marriage to M.A. Simmons in Iowa City fifty-two years ago, July 2. To this union twelve children were born, three of whom preceeded her in death. All the living children were with her during her last illness, Mrs. B_unelle of Minneapolis, Mrs. Johnson of Davenport; Mrs. Shedenhelm of Marshalltown, Mrs. Arthur Brown and Tressie of Marengo; her ___ Carl of Williamsburg, Roy, Mark and Paul of Marengo; there are also 21 grand-children and 5 great grandchildren. Lloyd Simmons and Marvin Brown, two grand-children, are in service in France. Mrs. J.H. Driscoll of Des Moines was also with her sister at the time of her death.

She was 72 years of age.

Funeral services were held this morning at nine o'clock from St. Patrick's church with interment to the Catholic cemetery."
