The Vale of the Shadow Passed.

Died, at the home of her daughter, in Genoa Bluff, Iowa, on Sunday morning, Oct. 25, 1891, Mrs EUSEBIA H. MITCHELL, mother of Mrs. Enoch D. Nutting, of this place.

Eusebia H. Mitchell was born Nov. 18, 1809, in Westfield, Vermont. With her parents she moved to Westminster, thence to Chittenden, Vt. At this place she was married, at the age of 22, to Daniel O. Mitchell, going to Pittsford, Vt., to begin housekeeping. Here she lived some time, and here she united with the Congregational Church, during the pastorate of Rev. Willard Child, which Church relationship she has retained during her whole life, in the fullness of a devotion of a true child of God. She left Pittsford for Pittsfield, thence came to Iowa in the autumn of 1851, where, save ten years in Nebraska, she has lived ever since. She lost her husband in Scott county, Iowa, thirty-five years ago the 18th of this month (October).

During her last illness she was very patient, and would say:--"I have all the comforts I need and should be very thankful." Her last message to her son Dan. H. Mitchell, of Blanden, Neb., was full of christian faith: "I enjoy his smile, and His love shed abroad in my heart, and His presence near me." In speaking of our text for the Sabbath: "The kingdom of God is not in word but in power." Speaking of it being a power to save, she added: "A very present help in time of trouble." On bringing her water to drink she told her granddaughter she had "enough of the water, but not enough of the words," of the text, "Comfort ye your hearts;" which we selected for the service.

Out of a family of seven children she leaves two children -- Mrs. Jennie Nutting, of this place, and Mr. Dan H. Mitchell, referred to above, the others having gone before. Many miss and mourn her loss to earth; but realize that the Master has transplanted the bright flowers to bloom more beautiful above, beyond the reach of future frosts of earth.

The Master had planted the garden of earth

With beautiful flowers, radient flowers;
As blossoming stars of heavenly birth

Dropt down as the sands of the hours;
The hour glass turns and life's golden sand

Sifts back to begin a new time,
And life blossoms again in a sunnier land,

As blooms in a winterless clime.

G.L. WILSON.
