MRS. GERTRUDE MAHANNAH, FORMER MARENGO WOMAN DIES FROM A HEART ATTACK
Word has been received here of the sudden death of Mrs. Gertrude Mahannah, 71, at a Des Moines hospital on Monday of last week. Death was due to a heart attack, which she had suffered several days previously.
Mrs. Mahannah was the former Gertrude Swaney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stockton Swaney, and spent her early years in Marengo.
Her husband, the late Fred Mahannah, was formerly assistant state superintendent of public instruction.
Among those who survive are three brothers, Rev. B. G. Swaney of Barrington, Ill., Rev. S. M. Swaney of Chicago and Prof. C. B. Swaney of Radford, Va., and one sister, Mrs. John Denson of Oxford, who is spending the winter in Texas. All were present at the funeral in Des Moines on Wednesday of last week.
Her husband, her parents and one brother, Gilmore, a former missionary in South America, preceded her in death.
