RITES HELD FOR ADDIE MAHANNAH, 85
Addie B. Mahannah, a longtime resident of North English, passed away Thursday morning at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, where she had been a patient only a few days. She was 85 years of age.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 26, 1971 at 3:00 p.m. in the Powell Funeral Home in North English. The officiating clergyman was Dr. Otto S. Steele. Mrs. L. J. Powell presided at the organ.
Interment was made in the North English cemetery.
Casketbearers were: Robert Jones, Dean Thomas, Bruce Warner, Donald Dixon, W.C. Mahannah and Ralston Coxe.
Addie Belle, daughter of John C. and Elizabeth Lortz Durr, was born February 13, 1886 in the Pilot Grove community, Pilot Township in Iowa County. She attended the Pilot Grove school.
Addie Durr and Russell Ross Mahannah were united in marriage of July 21, 1909 at Williamsburg. They established their home in North English, where Mr. Mahannah was in the furniture business and also was a mortician.
This union was blessed with four daughters, Marjorie, Corinne, Jean and Betty.
Following the death of her husband in September, 1946, Addie continued to make her home in North English until nine years ago. She then went to Shenk’s nursing home in Wellman where she had since resided.
Addie loved young people, and many North English youngsters found a warm welcome in the Mahannah home when a group gathered for an evening of singing, card playing or visiting.
She is survived by three daughters, Marjorie (Mrs. Jack Ross) of Iowa City; Jean (Mrs. Francis X. White) of Coralville, and Betty (Mrs. Menzo Hatter) of Phoenix, Arizona; also by a son-in-law, Robert Godlove of Wellman, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Preceding her in death were her husband Ross; one daughter, Corinne Godlove; her parents; three sisters, Molly Jones, Louise and Maggie and by an infant brother.
