E.M. “BING" MAHANNAH, FORMER BUSINESSMAN, DIES IN CALIFORNIA
Ernest M. (Bing) Mahannah died Monday, February 19, 1968 at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, San Francisco, California where he had been a patient since January 25, 1968.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 o’clock Friday, February 23, in the Chapel of the Halsted Funeral Home. Interment was at Woodlawn in San Francisco.
Ernest, son of Curtis D. and Eva Williams Mahannah was born in North English, Iowa, May 21, 1896. He graduated from the North English High School in 1915 where he was a prominent athlete and during succeeding years he was a pitcher on some of the more noted North English baseball teams. He served in the U.S. Army in World War l from May 7, 1917 to June 12, 1919 and held the rank of Sergeant in the Medical Corps. For many years he was associated with his brother Ross in the Mahannah Furniture and Undertaking business in North English.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Clark, Verne, Ross, Columbus and Ray; three sisters: Bess, Nell and Mary.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine; son, Bill of North English; and daughter, Mary Elaine Casey of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren: Ronald and Rodney Mahannah and Kristine and Larry Casey; Two brothers, Willis of Butte, Nebraska and Wayne of Pueblo, Colorado; one sister Edith Hiltbrunner of Cedar Rapids;and other relatives and friends.
