Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Marengo.

A memorial fund has been established.

Funeral service for James E. “Jim” Lonergan, 89, Cedar Falls, will be held Wednesday, March 8, at College Hill Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls. He died Friday, March 3, 2017, at his home.

Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery, Marengo. Military honors will be conducted by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

James Lonergan was born Feb. 26, 1928, in Marengo, the son of Leo and Esther Lindsay Lonergan. He married Lillian “Lil” L. Schultz June 13, 1952, in Lincoln Township.

He graduated from Marengo High School in 1946, attended the University of Iowa and later served in the United States Army. He was employed as a repairman for Northwestern Bell in Waterloo. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the National Woodie Club.

Lonergan is survived by his wife, Cedar Falls; three daughters, Linda (Bill) Cornils, Fairfield, Calif.; Pat (Tom) Wollan, Des Moines, and Nancy Lonergan, Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, Adam Coughlin, Aaron Cornils, Megan Stephens and Lauren DeVan, and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
