Memorial service for Joyce “Elaine” Gould, 83, Cedar Rapids, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. She died Sunday, March 5, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, after a long illness.

The Rev. Jim Davis will officiate at the service.

Inurnment will be at a later date in Koszta Cemetery.

Memorials may be contributed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.

Elaine Miner Gould was born June 30, 1933, at Belle Plaine, the daughter of Lloyd Miner and Velma Buswell Miner. She attended the Honey Creek Number 5 School and graduated from Belle Plaine High School.

She married Carol Gould Dec. 15, 1952. She farmed with her husband and worked at a grocery store and for Bob Nance, Dean Landfear (Voice of Iowa) and the Vinton School for the Blind. Later she went into the Methodist Church as a Christian educator. She attended many classes and seminars over the years, first becoming a lay pastor with the Waverly Methodist Church. She went on to serve with the First United Methodist Church in Marion, Christ Community Church in Marion on two different occasions, the First Methodist Church in Ottumwa, and then as a circuit preacher for churches in Victor, Guernsey-Malcom, Ohio, Koszta and Williamsburg.

Gould is survived by a son, Benjamin (Cindy), Appleton Wis.; two daughters, Becky (Mike) Hite, Gresham, Ore., and Christine Carol Gould, Crooks, S.D.; six grandchildren, Lindsay Gould, Cleveland, Ohio; Stephanie (Jon) Weiss, Mbeya, Tanzania; Ashley (Shannon) Scott, Columbus, Ohio; Jeremiah (Katie) Gould, San Diego, Calif.; Jessica Hite, Huber Heights, Ohio, and Kelly Hite, Portland, Ore.; 11 great-grandchildren, Savannah, David, Sophia and Isiah Weiss, Carson Scott, William and Wyatt Gould, Calvin and Jackson Hite, Ada Dawson and Kennedy Murray. She also helped care for and mentor Norma Gould’s children, Amy (Tony) Tomash and Lori Gould. She is also survived by four sisters, Sharon (Larry) Lebeda, Sally Wenger, Patsy Irons and Lyn (John) Nebel and two brothers, Jeff (Claudia) Miner and Buck (Heidi) Miner and many nieces and nephews, including Dennis Gould and Ted (Lisa) Gould and their children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carol “Kelly” Gould, Sept. 15, 2016, and her parents.
