Funeral service for Darlene Smith, 95, Ladora, will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 3, at the United Methodist Church, Victor. She died Monday, Oct. 31, 2016, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo.

The Rev. James Davis will officiate at the service. Music will be provided by Verabeth Bricker, organist, and Caitlin Smith, Brianna Erickson and Patty Lang, vocalists.

Interment will be in the Victor Memorial Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Barry Johnson, Stephen Newville, David Smith, Eric Smith, Jonathan Smith and Neal Smith.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Victor, beginning at 1 p.m. Nov. 2 and the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Ladora United Methodist Church and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, Victor.

Hazel Darlene Smith was born April 14, 1921, near Keswick, the daughter of Fay and Eva Martin Randolph. She was raised in the Kinross area and received her education there.

She married Arthur Dale Johnson and they were blessed with three children, Gary, Bonnie and Connie Jo. The marriage later ended in divorce.

She married George Louis Smith Aug. 22, 1945, in Millersburg. The couple were blessed with one son, James. They farmed near Kinross from 1946 to 1954. In 1955, they purchased a farm near Ladora. She had been a resident at Rose Haven Nursing Home since 2009.

She loved working on the farm, gardening, canning and baking, but most of all she enjoyed caring for the animals. She also was employed at the Amana Refrigeration Company. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved the Lord and demonstrated her Christian faith in everything she did.

Smith is survived by her children, Gary (Penny) Johnson, Arlington, Texas; Bonnie (James) Newville, Desert Hot Springs, Calif., and James (Editha) Smith, Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren and her sister, Delores (Carl) Simons, Logansport, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Connie Jo Smith; two sisters, Leota Cheney and Carol Ann Randolph, and one great-granddaughter.
