Johanna (Jennie) Minnie Leichsenring, age 99, originally of South Amana, passed away on September 30, 2016, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 6, 2016, at the Middle Amana Church, with Elder Harold Pitz officiating.
Burial will be in the South Amana Cemetery, South Amana. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at the Middle Amana Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed in care of Jennie to the Amana Church Society, P.O. Box 103, Amana, Iowa 52307.

Jennie is survived by her daughter, Darlene (Alfred) Fratzke; and a granddaughter Susan (Shane) Fratzke Brucker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter; a brother Herbert Reihman; and a sister-in-law Doris.

Jennie Leichsenring was born March 21, 1917, in Middle Amana, the daughter of Frank and Paula (Trumpold) Reihman. She attended the Amana School in Middle Amana through the 8th grade. She worked as a weaver in the Amana Woolen Mill.

She married Walter Leischsenring in Middle Amana on December 11, 1948. She and her husband owned and operated Walt’s Cleaners in Marengo, Iowa for over 25 years. They enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and visited nearly every state after they retired. Jennie loved to crochet and knit, and filled many living rooms and kitchens with her beautiful hot pads and warm afghans. She also took great pleasure in caring for her flowers and watching the birds on the many bird feeders she kept outside the windows, while living independently. She enjoyed puzzles and board games, and was always ready for a game of rummy or aggravation. She was a member of the Amana Church.

The family would like to thank Jim and Dixie Carpenter, Chris and Sonia Johnson and the staff at Keystone Apartments for their incredible kindness and support.
