Vada Mae Wille, 95, of Brooklyn, died October 2, 2016, at Brooklyn Community Estates.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday, October 7th, at St. James Lutheran Church in Victor with the Rev. Michael Kolesar officiating. Organist will be Pam Cronbaugh.

A private family burial with military honors will be held prior to the service at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery near Victor.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Memorial contributions may be directed to The Lutheran Hour, Lutheran Heritage Foundation, St. James Lutheran Church or the Victor American Legion.

Vada was born August 13, 1921, to Earl and Lillian Cashman Bahr, in Ladora, Iowa. She was baptized later that year in the Ladora United Methodist Church. She attended grade school and high school in Ladora. She was confirmed in November of 1941, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. In 1943, she graduated from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Marshalltown.

Vada joined the Army Nurse Corp. in 1943 and served in the U.S. and E.T.O in England and France during W.W. II. She was a surgical nurse in a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in France and then also accompanied wounded service men on their flights home to the States. After her discharge, she was active in nursing for 45 years in the Marengo and later Grinnell Hospitals.

On November 15, 1943, she was united in marriage with Raymond Wille, in Ladora. They farmed east of Williamsburg and in 1951, they moved south of Victor. While in Victor, she was a member of St. John's Lutheran. In 1979, they retired to Williamsburg and became members of St. Paul Lutheran Church. In 1995, they returned to Victor and were members of St. James Lutheran Church. She was an active member of each church's Ladies Aid, LWML and Altar Guild.

In April of 2001, Vada moved to Littlefield, Texas to be near her daughter, Vadarae. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and LWML. She returned to Iowa in February of 2004 to reside at Brooklyn Community Estate.

Vada was a member of the Iowa County Farm Bureau, the American Legion and was a lifetime member of the American Red Cross. She baked and decorated many types of cakes for family and the public for many years. She enjoyed gardening and canning and freezing her produce, sewing and crocheting. She was an active farm wife.

Survivors include her daughter, Vadarae Gohlke of Littlefield, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Barbara DeNeve of rural Victor; four granddaughters, Heather (John) Scivally of Littlefield, Elizabeth (Zach) McCaw of Glenwood, Sarah (Danny) Paxton of Greenfield and Melissa (Mark) Rhinehart of Victor; nine great-grandchildren, Jacob and Bryan Scivally, Madison, Carter and Will McCaw, Ashlyn, Morgan and Owen Rhinehart and Harper Paxton; one sister, Laura Belle,(Mrs. Clegg) Betz of Grapeland, Texas; a sister-in-law, Dolores (Mrs. Albert) Wille of Williamsburg; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond in 1999; her son, Willard in 2013; two sons-in-law, Clinton McFadden and Eldon Gohlke; and three sisters, Ruth Lamer, Wanda Blake and Lois Rosenbach.

The family wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Brooklyn Community Estates and a special thank you to Pastor Kolesar for his many visits to Vada over the years.
