Memorial service for Karla S. Rathjen, 46, Marengo, was held at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 12, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo. She passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, while surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Fr. David Wilkening officiated at the service.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo.

Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, was in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.klosterfuneralhome.com.

A memorial fund has been established.

Karla Sue Rathjen was born Sept. 20, 1969, in Sigourney, the daughter of Gordon and Verna Esser Goeldner. She graduated from high school in 1988 and attended Kirkwood for one year.

She married Todd Rathjen on Sept. 7, 1991, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo. She worked at Grinnell State Bank in loan administration, Jerran’s Storm Drains as a bookkeeper, as well as Phat Daddy’s. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family and playing pinochle. Most of all, Karla loved following the interests of her three daughters.

Rathjen is survived by her husband, Todd; three daughters Deena, Miranda, and Chelsie Rathjen; her parents, Gordon and Verna Goeldner; two brothers, Steve (Renee) Goeldner and Craig (Dawn) Goeldner; two sisters, Sara (Todd) Grimm and Christine (Brent) Bral; a very close friend, Lorrainne (Mike) Curry; nieces and nephews, Lily Reuter, Lexi and Grant Goeldner, Brooklyn, Sophia, Aidan Grimm, Brecken and Nash Bral.
