Lynda Johnson, 70, Marengo, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, at her home. The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.

A memorial fund has been established.

Lynda Kay Johnson was born Jan. 6, 1946, in State Center, the daughter of Worney and Eleanor Oehlsen Johnson Schachtlie. She graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1964. She worked at the United States Postal Service in Cedar Rapids. In 1968, she started working at the Iowa Valley Junior High School as the secretary, later becoming the secretary for the superintendent. She also was the secretary for the school board. She retired in 2012.

She enjoyed tending to her flower garden, crocheting, sewing, knitting, playing scrabble and reading. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and spoiling them rotten.

Johnson is survived by a daughter DeeAnna Brandt; three grandchildren Sebastian Johnson, Gabriel Brandt and Dominick Brandt; siblings Jerry (Mickie) Johnson, Texas; Jim (Susie) Johnson, Ladora; Dean Johnson, Newton; Becky (Everett) Birch, Marengo; Wendy (Kent) Leonard, Sigourney; Tom (Isa) Johnson, Texas; Tim (Elaine) Johnson, Texas; Steve Johnson, Marengo; David (Michelle) Schachtlie, Marengo, and Dennis (Cara) Schachtlie, Marion, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Johnny, and a niece, Jessica Johnson.
