Services for Willard Hegewald, 85, Middle Amana, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Oxford.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg, with a rosary and prayer service recited at 4 p.m. Burial is at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Oxford. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.

Mr. Hegewald died Wednesday, Aug. 24, At the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha.

Willard Louis Hegewald was born May 21, 1931, in Middle Amana, the son of Otto and Louise (Muesse) Hegewald. He graduated from Amana High School in 1950.

He was united in marriage to Joan Lucille Greiner on Sept. 7, 1957, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Keota. Together the couple made their home in Middle Amana.

Willard worked for Amana Refrigeration for 43 years, retiring in 1994.

He enjoyed wood working, yard work, bird watching and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Willard was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford were he enjoyed volunteering.

He is survived by his wife Joan of Amana; five children: Steve (Terry) Hegewald, Keota, Tom (Sharon) Hegewald, Williamsburg, Barbara (Bruce) Heishman, Walford, Leon (Rhonda) Hegewald, Amana and Marla (Joseph) Tursi, Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; and a sister, Harriet Bierman, Amana.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Bierman.
