Amy Nadine Leonard, age 85 of Marengo, died Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday, January 2, 2016, at the Marengo American Legion Hall, Marengo, with Chaplain Boyd Kuester officiating. The family will receive friends after 12:00 Noon on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Legion Hall. . Burial: Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.

Nadine is survived by two sons, Max Leonard (Darlene) of Ladora, Kent Leonard (Wendy) of Sigourney; four daughters, Janeen Leonard (friend William West) of Springfield, MO, Terria Beck (Nathan) of Belle Plaine, Letha Rathjen (Mark) of Williamsburg, and Kandi Hathaway (Rob) of Belle Plaine; thirteen grandchildren, Evan Fitzgerald, Holli Carlson, Pat Rupp, Luke Leonard, Stoney Leonard, Shannon Rabe, Shane Leonard, Shantel Lindsey, Jerry Beck, Jeff Eastridge, Ariel Lindenmayer, Seth Wisner and Kody Wisner; 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her special friend Frank Egan of Marion, a sister-in-law, Janet Dains of Marengo, and a brother-in-law, Merle Leonard of Marengo, along with numerous extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Laran, a brother Vern “Slug” Dains, a sister Norma Dains, and her step-father Vern Gunderson.

Amy Nadine Dains was born November 21, 1930 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Maxine Harden Dains. She attended schools in Brighton and Marengo. She proudly received her GED at the age of 60. Nadine and Marvin M. Leonard were married June 4, 1948 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa Besides being a wife, mother and homemaker, Nadine was employed as a cook for several area restaurants. She prepared taxes for H and R Block, worked at the Amana Woolen Mill, and guided Amana tours. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marengo, and the Marengo American Legion Auxiliary. She collected hats, and enjoyed quilting, sewing and needlework. She liked going to the casino with her friend Frank, and was always game for car trips and adventures.

Per her request, private family services were held Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, with Rev. Matt German officiating.
