Amanda Mathilda Beer, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Dec. 25, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 31, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Burial will take place following the funeral at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Homestead, Iowa.

Amanda was born on May 3, 1928, in rural Homestead, Iowa, to Rudolph and Elsie [Wichmann] Hagen. Her childhood was spent on the family farm. She received her primary education at St. John's Lutheran School in rural Homestead, then attended Marengo High School. She graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. degree. She worked as a stenographer in St. Louis, Mo., and at the Federal Land Bank in Cedar Rapids. She married Herbert Beer at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Homestead in 1951. In 1959, they adopted their first infant daughter, Christine Marie, followed in 1963 by the adoption of another infant daughter, Catherine Esther.

Amanda is survived by her husband of 63 years, Herbert; her daughters, Christine (Kevin) Wadle of Peoria and Catherine (Matthew) Wyatt of Cedar Rapids; and three grandchildren, Anthony, Rachel and Jason.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Herbert Jr.; and her brother, Oren.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or St. John's Lutheran Church.
