Keith Young, 80

Funeral service for Keith W. Young, 80, Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at First United Methodist Church, Marengo. He died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, at Rose Haven Nursing Home.

The Rev. Anni Mingin officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Keith William Young was born Dec. 6, 1934, in Marengo, the son of Leo and Norma Patterson Young. He attended the Conroy elementary and Marengo schools.

He married Janice Kay Hartz Dec. 31, 1952, in Cedar Rapids. He was employed at Amana Refrigeration, Parks Construction and Marengo Ready Mix for 21 years. He then started his own business, Keith Young and Sons Construction, which he later expanded to include Linn County Ready Mix, Johnson County Ready Mix and Iowa County Ready Mix.

He was a lifelong farmer and a member of First United Methodist Church, Marengo. The couple enjoyed wintering in McAllen, Texas.

He was a loving husband, father and grandpa and will be missed by all.

Young is survived by a daughter, Vicki (Don) Schafbuch, Marengo; two sons, Douglas (Andrea) Young and Dennis (LeeAnn) Young, both Platteville, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Travis (Allison) Schlabach, Shannon (Luke) Slockett, Tiffany (Jeff) Simonsen, Chad (Lindsey) Young, Brianne (Shaun) Roberts, Lindsay (Jake) Niebes, Brandon (Katie) Young and Amanda Young; 12 great-grandchildren, Ashlea and Austin Schlabach, Brynlee and Bryar Slockett, Livia, Levi and Myla Roberts, Jack and Hallie Niebes and Jordan, Jaylynn and Madison Young; three sisters, Cleo Tuttle, Marengo; Carole (Richard) Ballard, Marengo, and Sherri (Virgil) Head, Story City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice K. Young, July 23, 2015; his parents; one son, Vance, in 1984; a grandson, Darin Schlabach, in 1980, and a brother, Garth, in infancy.
