Ivan Reihmann, 83

Funeral service for Ivan W. Reihmann, 83, Middle Amana, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Middle Amana Community Church. He died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, at his home.

Church elder Mike Shoup officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Middle Amana Cemetery with military honors.

Memorials may be made to the Amana Church Society or Essence of Life Hospice.

Ivan William Reihman was born June 24, 1932, in Middle Amana, the son of William and Henrietta Dickel Reihmann. He attended the Amana schools and graduated from Amana High School in 1950. He continued his education at Iowa State College, receiving a bachelor’s degree in farm operations and agricultural economics.

He married Darlene Blasi at the Mennonite Country Church, Pulaski, on July 17, 1954. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1957, stationed in Texas, California and Georgia. Upon returning to Iowa, he worked for the Amana Society, doing general farm work and as a farm manager trainee. He was employed for a year with the USDA Conservation Service, moving on to Amana Refrigeration and Merchants National Bank in Cedar Rapids as a farm management officer. In 1979, he worked with Cedar Valley Farm Business Associates, Swisher, in record keeping and tax consulting. In 1981, he joined Principal Financial Group, Des Moines.

He was a member of the Amana Society Board of Directors, the Finance and Compensation Committee, Heritage Agency on Aging, Iowa County Veterans Commission, American and Iowa Society of Farm Managers, Iowa County Selective Service Board, treasurer of the Amana Community Chest, Cloud Nine Flying Club and the Amana Young Men’s Bureau and was a member of the Amana Sangerbund (men’s chorus). He was an elder and trustee of the Amana Church, director of Meals on Wheels and worked with many other community services. He was also a member of Marengo American Legion Post 76.

He enjoyed mowing his lawn, maintaining Reinhardt Park and the Amana bike trail. He also enjoyed all things relating to aviation, as well as singing. He liked Amana history translation, conducting digestor tours and was constantly checking on the weather.

Reihmann is survived by his wife, Darlene; his children, Bob (Mary Lou) and Ronald, Denver, Colo.; Randy (Jeanne), Middle, and Denise Reihmann Brown (Brian), Robins, and eight grandchildren, William Reihmann, Karlton Reihmann, Kurt Reihmann (Ann), April Brown Nelson (Nick), Anna Reihmann, Caitlin Brown, Alexa Aronow and Brooke Aronow.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elaine, in infancy.
