Donald Starkweather, 85

Graveside memorial service for Donald E. “Starky” Starkweather, 85, Marengo, was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Bishop Cemetery, Marengo. He died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo.

A memorial fund has been established.

Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.klosterfuneralhome.com.

Donald Eugene Starkweather was born Aug. 10, 1930, in Genoa Bluff, the son of Roy and Nora Stanton Starkweather. He attended Amana country schools and worked for the City of Marengo for several years. He also did seasonal work at Pioneer Seed, sorting corn.

He enjoyed growing flowers, gardening, planting numerous trees, harvesting firewood, whittling wood and doing other craft projects. He loved his old time music.

Starkweather is survived by four sisters, Violet (Marvin) Anderson, June Schwertfeger, Rose Frondle and Lovell (Donald) Slaymaker, all Marengo, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Velma Birch and Margaret in infancy, and three brothers, Robert, Alfred and Jerry.
