Helen Marie Romberg, often called “Sis” by her seven siblings, was born 101 years ago, on June 16, 1914, the daughter of Jesse and Eliza “Doll” (Wagamon) Seitsinger on the Seitsinger farm south of Kinross. She graduated from 12th grade at the Kinross High School in 1931 as did her classmate and boyfriend of 81 1/2 years, soon to be her husband, Delbert Romberg. They graduated in a class of only 11 and were the last two of that class to leave this world.

A wedding in 1934 was planned in three days at the Seitsinger farm, so they were allowed to vacation in Wisconsin with a brother and sister and their spouses. A large dinner was made by the Seitsinger family and served to the guests. This marriage lasted 77 1/2 years. They lived with his parents, Karl Charles and Sarah Elizabeth (Brawner) Romberg, for five years on the Romberg farm.

Helen and Del (as he was called in later years as a real estate broker) farmed the Romberg farm southwest of Kinross for 33 years, where they enjoyed their herd of registered horned Hereford cattle and raised four children. The couple lived in Maryville, Mo., before moving to Ocala, Fla., in 1974 to enjoy yard work, music and their wonderful neighbors.

She retired at the age of 83 after 10 years of employment at Morrison’s Cafeteria where she enjoyed associating with and serving the public. She returned to Williamsburg in 2013, where the couple had lived from 1967 to 1971. She lived in her wonderful independent apartment at Highland Ridge until leaving her family on Sept. 5.

She was a dedicated daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, 4-H leader, caregiver for both her mother and her husband’s father and friend and was a member of the Kinross Christian Church for 78 years.

Romberg is survived by four children, Stanley Charles Romberg, Ocala, Fla., and his special friend, Doris Glass, Belhaven, N.C.; Linda (Gary) Pribyl, Fairfax; Clifford (Sandra) Romberg, Lino Lakes, Minn., and Janice (Leon) Kubiak, St. Peters, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Brenda (Kenny) Koehler and Brent Romberg (Julie), Kimberly (Derek) Bolt and Todd TeBockhorst (Kim), Erin Romberg and Sarah (Jon) Gibson, along with their special mother, Ann Romberg, Rebecca (Jesse) Moran and Matt Kubiak; four step-grandchildren, Frank (Angela) Pribyl, Jennifer (Phil) DeBoest, Jodi Pribyl and Alyssa Frank; six great-grandchildren, Destiny (Doug) Nekola, Skyler Romberg, Amelia Romberg and A.J. Bolt, C.J. Bolt, Helayna Bolt and seven step-great-grandchildren, MaryLynn, Johnathon, Joshua and Joseph Pribyl and Ezekiel, Lucy and Anna DeBoest.

She was preceded in death by her faithful husband, Del; her parents; five brothers, Marlowe, Omer, Byrl, Paul and Harold Seitsinger; one sister, Betty Maxwell; a half-sister, Ruby Kammerer; a daughter-in-law, Karen Romberg; a step-grandson, Jesse Frank, and a great-grandchild.
