Orville Walter, 84

Celebration of life service for Orville E. A. Walter, 84, Homestead, was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. He died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center, Coralville.

The Rev. Richard Meyer officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with a military service by Iburg Poulson VFW Post 8797.

Memorials may be made to Iburg Poulson VFW, Immanuel Lutheran Church or Iowa City Hospice.

Orville Earnest Arnold Walter was born June 13, 1931, on a farm near Homestead, the son of Carl and Meta (Huedepohl) Walter. He attended Immanuel parochial school near Williamsburg and served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954.

He married Rita Knipfer June 25, 1955, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. He had farmed and lived on the family farm all of his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Iburg Poulson VFW Post 8797, Williamsburg.

Walter is survived by his wife, Rita; three daughters, Kelly (Howard) Buck, Tiffin; Kim (Terry) Gorsh, Boone, and Carma Morrison, Williamsburg; seven grandchildren, Miranda and Meridith Hochstetler, Tiffin; Jessica (Shawn) Stimmel, Cedar Rapids; Emmy (Eric) Quaintance, Solon; Jacob Escher, Boone; Heath Walter, Williamsburg, and Paige Morrison, Marengo; seven great-grandchildren, Caden and Bella Stimmel, Austin and Allison Quaintance, Brenten Walter, Zoey Newcomb and Meta Evans, and one brother, Reno Walter, Oxford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Rodney; three sisters, Norma Schmidt, Erna Collingwood and Lillie Neitzel, and four brothers, Adolph, LeRoy, Melvin and Arnold; one granddaughter, Rachel Evans, and one grandson, Chad Evans.
