Marvin Halvorson, 74

Funeral service for Marvin W. Halvorson, 74, Conroy, was held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at First Lutheran Church, Conroy. He died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at his home.

The Rev. Donald Dovre officiated at the service.

Burial was in the church cemetery with military honors.

A general memorial fund has been established.

Marvin Wayne Halvorson was born Nov. 30, 1940, in rural Iowa County, the son of Milford and Norma Helgeson Halvorson. He attended Iowa County schools and graduated in 1960. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force for four years, stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas.

He married Rita Doty June 17, 1962. Upon his return from the service, he farmed in Iowa County for many years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Conroy, and Marengo American Legion Post 76.

He enjoyed camping and traveling. He liked jam sessions and his morning coffee with the group at Stanerson Implement. But most of all, he loved his family and spending time with them.

Halvorson is survived by his wife, Rita; three children, Dodie (Joe) Meyers, Mechanicsville; Bonnie (Steve) Lohrer, Conroy, and Nels (Jennifer) Halvorson, Ladora; 11 grandchildren, Michael and Madison Lohrer, Conroy; Amelia, Josie, Rachel, Sam, Macy, Alex and Eli Meyers, Mechanicsville, and Brittany and Erin Halvorson, Ladora, and one brother, Ron (Cora) Halvorson, Missouri Valley.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
