Earl Wiebold, 89

Earl G. Wiebold, Billings, Mont., a banker and private pilot, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2015.

He was born Nov. 23, 1925, in Conroy, the son of George and Mae [Greenfield] Wiebold, Marengo. He graduated from Marengo High School.

He married LaDean Timmerman on June 11, 1949, in Marengo. The couple moved to Denver, Colo., in 1952. He was a member of First Plymouth Congregational Church. The couple lived in Denver until moving to Mission Ridge, Billings, Mont., in 2003.

Earl attended American Institute of Banking seminars and night school classes from 1952 to 1963 and graduated from special courses offered at various colleges and universities.

It’s noteworthy to mention that he started his career in a bank with seven employees in Marengo. Over the years, he worked in every department within the banking industry and eventually concluded his career in Denver, in a bank with over 5,000 employees. He specialized in developing management tools better able to deal with the future. He succeeded with implementing a multitude of new services, techniques and methods for starting corporate planning departments.

He was active in numerous businesses, professional and civic organizations. He was also on many boards, such as Goodwill Industries, Golembe and Associates, Washington, D.C.; Myasthenia Gravis Association of Colorado, AIB-Board of Governors, Colorado State Board of Vocational Education, vice chairman of Governor’s Committee of Employment for the Handicapped and a member of the Denver Club.

Family was his major interest. He was an incredibly generous, intelligent, compassionate man with a witty sense of humor. He described himself as a perpetual student and enjoyed golfing, traveling, photography, music of many types and writing. He was an instrument-rated private pilot and a member of Denver United Bank’s Flying Club.

Additionally, he was a veteran of World War II and a lifetime trustee of the President’s Leadership Class at the University of Colorado. He served on the Board of Directors as vice president of Cherry Hills Country Club, where he was a lifetime member.

Wiebold is survived by his wife, LaDean L. Wiebold, Billings; two daughters, Heidi Kim (Eugene) Wadas, Billings, and Amy Beth Wiebold, Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister, Doris Mae Maas, Williamsburg, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gilbert, and two sisters, Florence and Erma.
