Celebration of life service for Roy L. McDowell Jr., 59, Coralville, formerly of Marengo, was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg. He died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015, at his home.

Burial was in the Millersburg Cemetery.

A general memorial fund has been established.

Roy Leon McDowell was born Sept. 6, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Roy L. and Velma Elaine (Schaffner) McDowell. He graduated from Marengo High School in 1975. He lived in Marengo and Williamsburg most of his life before moving to the Iowa City area. He enjoyed watching movies and wrestling, listening to music and spending time with family.

McDowell is survived by two brothers, Gerald McDowell, Cedar Rapids, and John McDowell, Marengo; four sisters, Linda Petersen and Jean McDowell, both Marengo, and Carol McDowell and Nancy McDowell, both Iowa City; five special brothers, Dennis Bair, Keith Bair, Don Patten, Bill Russell and Kevin McIntyre, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
