Marjorie Van Dee, 97

Funeral Mass for Marjorie M. Van Dee, 97, Williamsburg, was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg. She died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015, at Highland Ridge Care Center.

The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service.

Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

A general memorial fund has been established.

Marjorie M. Van Dee was born July 14, 1918, in Deep River, the daughter of Marion and Matilda (Churkey) Furney. She married Charles W. Van Dee Jan. 28, 1936, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, North English. She worked at the Landmark for over 26 years. She was a life-long resident of Iowa County and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg. She enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, flowers, camping, her cat “Backus,” and the Iowa State Fair.

Van Dee is survived by five children, Colene South (Ron Brewer), Cedar Rapids; Pat Ritchie, Marengo; Cindy Van Dee, Williamsburg; Diane (Bill) Glenn, Oskaloosa, and Denny (Carmen) Van Dee, Williamsburg; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Van Dee, Oxford, and one sister, Elaine McCulley, Brooklyn.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sons, Ronald and Kenneth Van Dee; two grandsons, Noah and Dustin Schmidt; a son-in-law, Jim Ritchie; three brothers, Clarence, Leo and Harvey Furney, and three sisters, Hazel Moore, Bessie Langhben and Velma Wilson
