Edna Castek Faltinson was born January 26, 1921, on the Castek family farm near Swisher, Iowa, the daughter of Aldrich B. and Sylvia E. (Cuhel) Castek. She graduated from the Swisher Consolidated Schools and Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids and received a secretarial degree from Cedar Rapids Business College. She worked at Russell Guides and Collins Radio before moving to Washington D.C. and Baltimore, MD, during WW II.

She married Frederick A. Faltinson November 26, 1950, at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. The couple lived many years on their farm north of Conroy until moving to the Methwick Community in 1992.

Edna loved living on the farm, her “heaven on earth”. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, nurturing animals, especially her cats, theatre, friends, and tending to her “beloved” church. First Lutheran, Conroy, cited her for the many hours devoted to flower arranging and for serving as church librarian. She was a community volunteer, a 4-H leader, and an active member of the Republican Party in Iowa County.

Edna died Saturday, August 15, 2015, at the Briarwood Healthcare Center, Iowa City, from a brief illness and struggle with dementia.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Mary Castek of Kansas City, MO.

She was preceded in death by her husband Fred who died Oct 24, 2002, her parents, her brother Wallace Castek of Swisher, and her sister-in-law Julia Anderson of Ames.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, August 29, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., in the First Lutheran Church north of Conroy with burial in the First Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church 9:30-11:00 a.m. preceding the funeral service. Pastor Donald Keiser Dovre will officiate.

Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Williamsburg, are providing arrangements. Memorials may be designated for First Lutheran Church - Conroy or for the Iowa County 4-H Foundation. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
