David B. Heusinkveld, 61, of Amana, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Celebration of Life services: 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana, with Elder Emilie Hoppe officiating. Inurnment will be in the Amana Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at Middle Amana Community Church.

A memorial fund has been established.

Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.

David is survived by his wife, Carol Roemig-Heusinkveld of Iowa City; a son, Forrest of Iowa City; his mother, Joan Liffring-Zug Bourret (Dwayne) of Iowa City; his brother, Artie of North Liberty; stepmother, Dawn Heusinkveld of Cedar Rapids; stepsister, K O'Brien of Springville; stepbrother, J Sheets of Dillon, Colo.; mother-in-law, Madeline Roemig Bendorf of Iowa City; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful caregiver, John Johnson of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Heusinkveld; and his son, Jordan, in 2003.

David Bennett Heusinkveld was born March 31, 1954, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Joan Liffring Heusinkveld. He graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, and received his bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University of Iowa.

David was a teacher for 25 years in the Cedar Rapids school system, working with special education students. His second career was as a nature photographer. Many of his photos were displayed in various venues over the years. His book of photographs, "The Amana Landscape," has won several national awards.

He and his family loved spending time at the cabin in northern Minnesota on Lake Kabetogma.
